A bit about me and my adventure on how I got here!
Hi! I'm Sripradha Baskaran!
I love to make games on Google Slides if you can't already tell. My ultimate goal is to learn coding so I can create even better games.
My Journey
My first ever Google Slides creation was The Magic Umbrella made on April 5th, 2022. I barely knew anything about Google Slides back then. I remember struggling a lot with the animations, I didn’t understand what animation did what and it took me a long time to figure out. Now looking back, I can really see how far I’ve come. I know all those animations by heart now.
After The Magic Umbrella, I continued and eventually made Brain Puzzles Jeopardy. That was the game that taught me what links were and how to use them. Looking back now, it was such basic stuff. But I guess you need to start somewhere, and I’m glad I did.
Then eventually, I started working on Papa’s Pizzeria. This was my first long-term project. Before that, all my projects only took a few days or max a week to finish. Papa’s Pizzeria took 3 long months. It was the project that brought consistency in this little hobby of mine. It was also what moved me from using random low-quality images in my game to actually self designing my assets.
After that, I just kept moving forward and forward. I remember discovering Kleki in Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar, and I still use it to this day to draw and edit my designs if needed.
Eventually, I started Job Simulator, my biggest creation so far. It was what really solidified my love for making games. That project confirmed that game-making is what I want to do, and that remains true even today.
Now I’m still growing and making more and more games. At the time of writing this, I’m working on my latest game The Portal Adventure. I wonder what other projects will be in store in the future. I wonder if this little hobby of mine will have been developed into something bigger, perhaps even to real, proper games made in code?
If I had told the 5th grader who made The Magic Umbrella what would come after, I don’t think she would have believed me. Yet here we are, and I’m very excited for everything that’s still to come.
My Style
Over time, I've developed a style for the games I make. For starters, I love to use emojis a lot. More specifically, I love to use Twitter/X emojis because of their simplistic style that matches my design. And if there isn't a emoji for what I want, I like to make it myself either using Google Slide's shapes and tools, or in rare cases, Photoshop for things I can't make in Slides. Designing is what usually takes the longest for me when making my games.
Apart from design, my games and projects are more simplistic and thought-out, which is what allows them to fit within Google Slide's limitations. Most of my games are either interactive stories (built using buttons that link to different slides based on the player's decisions) or timed games (built using animated links that appear and disappear at specific times). These features are what make my games work the way they do.
Highlights
Here are a few of my favorite projects I’d like to highlight!
Job Simulator: My biggest project yet! This took me took 7 months to make and has a total of 646 slides.
The Lost Kitty: I love the overall storyline of this game and how it turned out, and I'm sure you'll like it too.
The Magic Umbrella: This was my very first slides creation! It's very special to me because of that. If you’d like to see where it all began, then definitely check this out.
The Portal Adventure: This game is currently still in progress, but once it'll finished, it will definitely be one of my favorites. Be sure to keep an eye out for it!
In the future
My dream is to learn coding so I can make even better and even more advanced games. Right now, I’m taking Python classes twice a week and am slowly building my skills. It will take me another year or two to become fluent, but I'm willing to wait that long. For now, I’ll keep making Google Slides games, and once I’ve learned the what I need to build real games, that will be my next big step.
A Little Extra
Outside of making games, I like to do a lot of other things. For starters, I play the musical instruments veena, flute, and sometimes the ukulele too for fun. I have been learning Veena for around 3 years by now and I go to weekly classes. I learned the flute in middle school through band, but I'm sadly not continuing now in high school because of the amount of work and time it takes. I still play the flute a lot for fun though. And as for the ukelele, I play it for fun in my spare time as well and like recording little tunes I come up with in it. I also love to play table tennis with my brother occasionally. It's very fun and I hope I'll continue playing like this in the future. Last but not least, I enjoy hanging out with my friends Grace, Yaretzi, Isabelle, Mina, Amelia, Connor and Anushka and I thank them for supporting me so much on this creation journey of mine!
